How Pacific are you? This video quiz holds the answer

This video visits nine spots along the Pacific Ocean, and gives you five seconds to identify each one before its name comes up.

We’re neutral, of course. But we understand that deep down, the Pacific is your favorite ocean. Or should be.

So we’ve concocted this video quiz. It covers nine locations (and a bonus lighthouse) in two minutes. And to narrow your options a bit, we’ve left out Asia and South America entirely.

All of these spots are along the water’s edge. Seven are on the West Coast. Five are in California. One is in the Southern Hemisphere. One is on a sound, sheltered from the open ocean. I shot all of this footage in the course of travels for The Times since 2013. You only get five seconds to name each area.

It would be astonishing if you identified all nine. But I’m thinking any traveler who treasures the Pacific -- any Pacificist -- should be able to name five of them. If you fall short, well, that only means it’s time to get out there and see more.

“A Minute Away” is a video series in which nothing much happens -- except you see the world, and hear it and get a respite from workaday life. We’ve covered Machu Picchu, Red Square, the Yucatan, the Alamo, an Alaskan float plane and the reading room of the New York Public Library, among other places. Since early 2013, we’ve been adding a new minute every week (and some of those “minutes” are closer to 120 seconds). So if you’d prefer an hour or two away, we’ve got more than enough here for you…
