Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

Storytelling, including a tall-tales contest called Liars’ Night, a community pig roast and the annual procession of the Grump are among highlights of the Crested Butte event, a celebration of the community’s Eastern European heritage. Residents and visitors jot down last year’s gripes, woes and worries, which are gathered up and stuffed inside the metal-and-cloth Grump. An outdoor theatrical drama leads to a bonfire, in which the Grump goes up in flames.

When, where: Sept. 19 to 22 at various locations in Crested Butte.

Cost: Free except for Liars’ Night ($7, $4 for those in costume and ready to tell a tale) and the pig roast ($10, $5 for kids 10 and younger).
