Starwood Hotels and Resorts begins the new year with a bang: Three-night stays in Hawaii with airfare for as little as $489 a person. Prices vary by island (Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island) and hotel (Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis and more ), and you can add on extra days too.

The deal: Travel-Ticker tipped me -- and everyone else who gets the company’s e-mail alerts -- to this limited-time offer. With airfare, three nights on Oahu start at $519, Maui at $755, Kauai at $505 and the Big Island at $489; prices are per person and based on double occupancy. Also, prices exclude tax. You can book online or by phone with Pleasant Holidays, which is handling reservations for this deal.

When: The deal must be reserved by Jan. 9 for travel Jan. 23-March 5.

Tested: I checked availability for Honolulu with a stay at the Sheraton Princess Kalulani. For a Feb. 6 departure, I found L.A.-Honolulu round-trip airfare and three nights in a room with a queen-sized bed for $589 per person or $1,179 for two, including tax. Note that this hotel charges a daily resort fee of $12.57, including tax. The savings are good, considering the cost of the same room for the same nights is $280 a night, plus tax and fees.
