Winter is a beautiful thing in the Arizona desert, with no shortage of sun and mild temperatures. For a kick-back holiday getaway this season, Loews Ventana Canyon resort in Tucson has rooms on sale starting at $89 a night -- but only until Wednesday.

The deal: The resort teamed up with Travelzoo for the limited-time offer. Temps in Tucson are nice and cool in late fall and early winter and great for hiking, golfing or just being outside, and the resort has planned events for Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s Eve.

When: The offer is good until Wednesday for stays Nov. 18-Jan. 12.

Tested: I checked on availability for a three-night stay starting on Thanksgiving (Nov. 24) and found a room with a king-size bed for $89 a night plus tax. It usually costs $159 a night. Also, a room with two double beds for two adults and two children starts at $99 a night, plus tax.

There are a few extra charges. There’s no resort fee, but it costs $9 a day to park and $10 a day to use the fitness center. Still, you’ll save $70 each night.
