Fly from L.A. to Northern California for $39-$49 one way

JetBlue and Southwest have some nice post-Labor Day sales that could make for a sweet fall getaway. Prices range from $39 to $49 each way from Southern California to points north. Of course, other destinations are on sale too, but act fast because these offers expire quickly.

JetBlue: The sale puts prices at $29 each way to Las Vegas from Long Beach and $39 each way from Long Beach to Oakland, Sacramento and San Francisco, excluding tax and fees.

When: The offer is good for travel on selected days Sept. 13-Dec. 15 with some blackout dates. Tickets must be purchased by 8:59 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 7).

Tested: I checked availability on flights leaving Oct. 1 Long Beach and returning from San Francisco on Oct. 4. Total round-trip cost: $78 plus tax and fees.

Southwest: Sale rates start at $49 one way from Burbank, Los Angeles and Orange County (John Wayne Airport) to Las Vegas,Oakland, Phoenix, Sacramento and San Jose. The $49 fare also applies to San Francisco from L.A. and Orange County.

When: The offer is good for flights on selected days through Dec. 14 with some blackout dates. Tickets must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. PDT Thursday.

Tested: I checked availability for flights and found the sale rate leaving Oct. 1 from L.A. and returning Oct. 4 from San Francisco. The base fare was $49 each way for a total of $91 round-trip, plus tax and fees.
