American Airline cancels 323 additional flights at Dallas-Fort Worth

American Airlines canceled 323 flights in and out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Thursday in the aftermath of tornadoes and hail storms that have snarled air traffic since Tuesday.

Sixty planes remain out of service at the airline’s hub because they are awaiting inspection or need repairs, spokesman Ed Martelle wrote in an email. (Check out this Associated Press video above of inspections that took place Wednesday.)

Earlier in the week, more than 100 planes were grounded, causing hundreds of flight cancellations each day since Tuesday. Martelle also said the airline is not re-routing passengers who are booked on connecting flights via Dallas-Fort Worth.

American continues to advise passengers flying in or out of Dallas-Fort Worth to check online to see whether their itinerary has been revised. The website says to call (800) 433-7300 to change a revised ticket, but getting through may be difficult. Industry watcher Joe Brancatelli of JoeSentMe.com filed an alert that said in part: “American’s phone lines continue to be jammed as passengers try to unravel their travel plans.”
