New pet-friendly activities calendar focuses on travelers

Special to the Los Angeles Times

Pets and their pals can get a new leash on life with a special calendar of events that’s focused on fun and games for the canine set.

The new calendar, posted on the website Pethotels of America, lists yappy hours, pet parades, surf dog championships and other events throughout the United States that cater to four-legged participants and their dog-loving owners.
The website also includes 25,000 pet-friendly hotels that can be booked online. In addition, it lists restaurants, parks, beaches, pet sitters, kennels and activities.
“My goal is to make it as easy as possible for pet owners to travel,” said Lisa Porter, the website’s founder and resident of Rancho Santa Margarita. “The site makes it simple for pet owners to find everything they need, from groomers to fun things to do in every city in the U.S.”

Among the upcoming activities listed on the site for Southern California:

  • April 14: Reality Rally, a fundraiser that includes performances by surf and biker dogs. Temecula, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • April 29: Charity Dog Wash and Pet Fashion Show offers baths for Bowser for $10, plus a pet photo booth, animal adoptions and fashions for dogs. Costa Mesa, noon-3 p.m., (714) 546-8786.
