Web Buzz: Diners, Drive-ins & Dives Finder app by MapMuse

Share

Here’s an app to help you find the often hole-in-the-wall foodie locations featured in Guy Fieri’s TV show “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.”

Name: Diners, Drive-ins & Dives Finder by MapMuse

Available for: Android, iPhone, iPod touch, iPad

What it does: Maps restaurants reviewed on the Food Network’s TV show. Search a city, view the restaurants and get directions or more information from the restaurant’s website.

Cost: $2.99

What’s hot: I tested the app on my Android smartphone and quickly started adding restaurants to the “My Places” feature that lets you save eateries you want to remember, mark as a favorite or add to your Bucket List. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of the restaurant; it has user-submitted photos, Yelp reviews and even a feature to get more information from the show episode (it opens up to a browser window on the Food Network). You also can also check off restaurants you’ve already visited — just in case these unusual diners all start to look alike.

What’s not: If you’re a fan of this show, you also might be a fan of Travel Channel food-related TV shows such as “Man v. Food Nation” with Adam Richman or “No Reservations” with Anthony Bourdain. Instead of putting all of these on one comprehensive map, you must buy them separately for $2.99 each. Lame.

Worth it: I hesitate to suggest that people spend the $2.99 because you can go to find.mapmuse.com to look up the same restaurants. But because I already had the app on my Android, I’ll definitely check out John Mull’s Meats and Road Kill Grill I found in Las Vegas.
