Special to the Los Angeles Times

You may think you know Yosemite National Park, but you can get to know it intimately through the Yosemite Insider Experience, a two-night, three-day adventure. Even better, new dates have been added for fall.

The Insider Experience includes a day and a half of exploration of Yosemite with a Yosemite Conservancy naturalist, a group picnic lunch and two nights of accommodations at either the Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge at the Falls or Curry Village. The experience costs $108 plus lodging. Rates vary from $500 a night (at the Ahwahnee) to as low as $121 a night for a heated tent in Curry Village.

Areas explored include Swan Slab, the base of Yosemite Falls, Cook’s Meadow, Old Yosemite Village, Ahwahnee Meadow, Church Bowl, Yosemite Village and Happy Isles. The naturalist will cover topics ranging from John Muir and Native Americans in Yosemite Valley to geology, tree identification, fire ecology and rock climbing.

When: Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28; Nov. 4, 11, 18, 30 and Dec 7.

Tested: Availability wasn’t an issue for the above dates. A hotel room was available at Curry Village on Oct. 7 and 8 for two people for $215 a night (or I could have booked a heated tent with shared toilet and bath facilities) for $121 per night. Total cost for the Curry Village hotel room (with a double bed or two doubles and a private bath) was $477.30 plus $108 per person for the Insider Experience.

Yosemite Lodge and the Ahwahnee also had availability on Oct. 7 and 8.
