Canada: Blackcomb Mountain will stay open until May 27
Some slopes have shut down for the season, but skiers have until May 27 to hit the slopes at Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler, Canada.
Whistler, home to the 2010 Winter Olympics’ alpine ski events, is 80 miles east of Vancouver.
Blackcomb’s sister peak, Whistler Mountain, closed for the season Sunday, but Blackcomb had more than 36 feet of snow this winter and is enjoying one of the longest ski seasons in North America.
Spring brings some unique ski conditions, such as “corn snow.” It’s the rough, granular snow that results from alternate thawing and freezing. Experts urge skiers to watch for changing conditions throughout the day, the result of climbing temperatures and bright sunshine.

Day passes cost about $63.35 U.S. and are available at the ticket window. Passes good for the rest of the season cost about $223.
The unusually late closing date for the ski slope means that for 11 days next month, visitors can ski Blackcomb and bike Whistler on the same day. That’s because the Whistler Mountain Bike Park is scheduled to open on May 17. An additional fee applies for mountain biking.
