Asia: Discovery Adventures broadens its tour offerings

Share

If you’re a fan of the Discovery Channel, check out some new tour destinations in Asia that its Discovery Adventures group will explore during 2013, including Malaysia, Borneo, southern India and Bhutan.

“We listen to traveler feedback and add more tours in the destinations that are of increasing interest,” said Elizabeth Bakacs, vice president of Discovery Adventures. “While countries like India, Thailand, China and Vietnam continue to grow in popularity, in 2013 we also invite travelers to dig deeper by offering tours to new Asia destinations.”

The company, in conjunction with G Adventures, offers 34 trips, including 13 new tours to 11 new countries. Besides Malaysia and Bhutan, new trips include Singapore, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Iceland, Colombia, Chile and Israel.

Jackie Garrity, innovation manager at G Adventures, said the tours try to capture and incorporate local flavor. “Whether it’s a regional cooking class in southern India, bird watching in Iceland or salsa dancing lessons in Colombia, participants connect with the local culture and wildlife of each destination,” Garrity said.

Among some of the new trip highlights:

  • In Malaysia and Borneo, travelers can visit an orangutan rehab center, plus Kuala Lumpur and the Borneo rainforest.
  • In Bhutan, participants can tour Buddhist monasteries and explore the country’s mountainous terrain.
  • In southern India, travelers can visit Kochi, Pondicherry and Madurai and stay on a houseboat in Kerala’s backwaters.

Besides new tours, Discovery Adventures has implemented a policy under which 100% of its 2013 trips are guaranteed to depart.
