Take a preview tour of LAX’s upgraded Tom Bradley terminal

If you’re curious about what’s new at Los Angeles International Airport, here’s a chance to tour the renovated Tom Bradley International Terminal before it fully opens later this summer.

The public is invited to LAX Appreciation Day between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. June 22 to see the terminal’s 18 new gates, some designed to accommodate super jumbo jets such as the Airbus A-380, new passenger boarding bridges and upscale restaurants and shops slated for the grand central hall.

Visitors will see art and aviation displays, the architecture of the redone terminal and meet the dogs in the airport’s new Pets Unstressing Passengers Program during the 90-minute tours. There will be six tours throughout the day, and guests must register in advance to receive a “boarding pass” and parking permit. (A maximum number of six people can register on one transaction.)

Renovation of the terminal includes the grand hall, which will be named for outgoing L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and will feature new restaurants including 800 Degrees, Umami Burger, LAMill Coffee and Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken’s Border Grill, as well as high-end shops such as Fred Segal, Michael Kors, Kitson, Coach and others.

Three of the gates on the termiinal’s north end opened in March. The terminal was supposed to be ready in December, but airport officials earlier told the Los Angeles Times that construction complications and additions to the project pushed that date to this summer. The new gates are part of a $4-billion upgrade of the airport.
