Funk band Cameo lands a resident show in Las Vegas in October

Reporting from Las Vegas — Funk band Cameo launches a resident show in Las Vegas on Oct. 7 that promises to bring an in-your-face approach to the stage at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.
Dubbed one of the most influential groups in funk music in the 1970s and ‘80s, Cameo plans to hit the stage at 7 p.m. from Wednesday through Saturday weekly.
Vocalist Larry Blackmon founded the group in 1974 and made the charts with hits such as “Word Up,” which made it to No. 6 on the pop charts in 1986. The group became a trendsetter throughout the 1970s and ‘80s and even influenced early R&B and hip-hop acts. Two original members of the band went on to found the hip-hop duo Outkast.
Cameo’s debut album “Cardiac Arrest” featured the hit “Rigor Mortis,” and established the group as a mainstay on the dance floor. Cameo released a string of gold-certified albums including “Cameosis,” which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B Albums chart. The group’s 1986 album “Word Up!” went platinum and climbed to No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the group’s most successful album.
