To encourage bicycling, foster more street life and keep drivers within the speed limit, transportation officials have reduced the number of car lanes on dozens of streets across Los Angeles, putting bike lanes or pedestrian spaces in their place. Councilman Jose Huizar’s 14th Council District has put nearly twice as many miles on "road diets" as any other district.
