CD-Copying Operations Raided in Southland
Law enforcement officials said they shut down a counterfeiting operation that record industry officials said could produce more than $50 million in CDs a year.
Dozens of officers raided five optical disc replication facilities in Los Angeles and Orange counties that allegedly manufactured and distributed millions of pirated CDs to stores and flea markets throughout the United States.
The raids were conducted by the Southern California High Tech Task Force, a group composed of federal and state agencies including the Justice Department, the Secret Service, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles Police Department.
