Outfielder Nori Aoki’s new home in the O.C. mirrors his first MLB stadium
Professional baseball player Nori Aoki, who has played for a handful of MLB teams during his baseball career, has paid about $2.456 million for a new home base in Newport Beach.
The outfielder’s new digs mirror the stadium of his first American team, the Milwaukee Brewers. Just as Miller Park features a retractable roof over the field, Aoki’s new place boasts a large retractable skylight hanging over its airy and open living area.
Hand-carved and bleached oak doors open up to the space, which features a dining area topped by a chandelier under the skylight. The open-plan room also holds a wood-accented wet bar, and adjacent is a living room with a brick fireplace.
A galley-style kitchen with a breakfast nook, a family room, four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms complete the updated floor plan of about 3,800 square feet.
Sliding glass doors open to a pool and spa lined with brick. Spread across the patio are a bar, fire pit and outdoor shower.
The property originally came to market last May for $2.749 million, records show.
Timothy Carr and Melissa Barnes of Villa Real Estate were the listing agents, according to the Multiple Listing Service. Chizuko Higuchi of First Team Real Estate represented the buyer.
Aoki, 36, found the majority of his success in Japan, racking up six Golden Glove awards, seven All-Star game appearances and 1,284 hits in the Nippon Professional Baseball League. Stateside, he has played for eight teams across six MLB seasons including the Brewers, Royals, Giants and, most recently, the Mets.
He is currently a free agent.
