Chalk up another remodel

Times Staff Writer

Actor Corbin Bernsen and his wife, actress Amanda Pays, have finished renovating their San Fernando Valley home and have listed it at just under $1.5 million.

“We’ve probably done 12 houses over the years,” said Pays, who orchestrated the work. Married in 1988, Pays and Bernsen have four sons ranging in age from 5 to 15.

Since the couple refurbished a Country English home in Beverly Hills that they sold to actor Steve Martin for $3 million in 1995, Pays has become increasingly interested in design.

The Spanish-style, stucco and tile-roofed house in Valley Glen is close to Burbank studios and Ventura Boulevard. Pays updated the 1937 home, which has three bedrooms and three baths in about 3,500 square feet. She preserved original hardware and architectural details and left the floor plan unchanged.

The house, on nearly an acre of gated, manicured grounds with mature citrus and olive trees, has his and hers walk-in closets in the master bedroom suite, an office, a kitchen with new stainless-steel appliances, and a finished basement that could be used as a media room and wine cellar. The original builder’s blueprints and notebooks will be included in the sale.

Pays has had several guest-starring roles on TV.

Bernsen first gained notice playing a divorce attorney on the hit NBC-TV series “L.A. Law” (1986-93) and appears on such TV series as “The West Wing” and “JAG.” He is in the upcoming movie “Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang,” with Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer.

Brian and Laurie Czamecki at Troop Real Estate, Westlake Village, have the listing.

Lennon family home for sale

A Venice home owned from 1956 to 1997 by the family of the Lennon Sisters, who gained national attention singing on “The Lawrence Welk Show,” has come on the market at about $1.8 million.

The 3,200-square-foot, Craftsman-style home has four bedrooms, a nursery, 3 1/2 bathrooms, a basement, an attic and a guesthouse. The house has a new kitchen and master suite. The property is zoned for up to four units.

The house was built in 1905, and it was moved to its current location in 1920.

The Lennon family, which had 11 children, lived there while four of the six daughters performed for 13 years on the Welk show, starting in 1955. After parting with Welk in 1968, the sisters continued to sing on TV and other venues.

In recent years, they have appeared at the Welk Resort and Champagne Theatre in Branson, Mo. Three sisters are in their 60s now; the youngest is 57.

The home, which has changed ownership twice since 1997, is listed with David Rosenfeld at Four Percent Broker in Los Angeles.

Dodger pitcher leases near beach

Tom Martin, a left-handed relief pitcher for the L.A. Dodgers, and his wife, Tasha, have leased a townhome in Manhattan Beach. The unit, behind gates, was leased at $4,200 a month for seven months.

The townhome has three bedrooms and three bathrooms in 1,820 square feet. The development was built in 1983.

Martin, 33, earned a spot on the Dodgers’ roster during spring training last year. After that, his 80 appearances in 2003 were the most by a Dodger southpaw in the franchise’s history. Phyllis Cohen-Edwards of Shorewood Realtors, Manhattan Beach, represented both sides of the lease transaction.

Post-divorce: new home in the hills

Actress Tawny Kitaen has purchased a Hollywood Hills home for close to its $3.4-million asking price.

Kitaen, recently divorced from former Anaheim Angel pitcher Chuck Finley, bought a newly built, five-bedroom, 5,000-square-foot home with a detached one-bedroom, one-bathroom guesthouse. The gated estate has four fireplaces and glass walls that open to a pool and a grassy yard. The home also has city views.

Kitaen, who appeared in the 1984 movie “Bachelor Party” and briefly hosted “America’s Funniest People,” was represented in her purchase by Victoria Massengale of Coldwell Banker, Sunset Strip.

He’s ordered up a penthouse view

Anton Posniak, co-owner of such hot nightspots as the Nacional, a New York-style Cuban bistro and bar in Hollywood, and Tengu, a sushi restaurant in Westwood, has purchased a one-story Marina del Rey penthouse with marina views for $619,000. He relocated from a Wilshire high-rise, which he leased to a local businessman.

Posniak’s new home has two bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,400 square feet. It has a large balcony and is within walking distance of the beach and marina restaurants. The complex, built in the ‘70s, has a pool and spas.

Jane Siegal of Coldwell Banker, Beverly Hills North, represented Posniak in his purchase and lease.
