Kirstie Alley shows off 50-pound weight loss, explains her new mindset

Kristie Alley says her weight-loss pattern is a lot like how she quit drugs

Kirstie Alley has lost weight again — 50 pounds, in fact — and she swears this time she's not going to gain it back.

Seems that give-and-take between excess and control is just how she operates, she said Monday on the "Today" show.

"I'm sort of hard-headed," she told Matt Lauer after flaunting her current figure in a form-fitting little black dress. "When I used to do drugs, it took me a while to quit, quit, quit, and then it was done.

"So I feel like that's occurred."

In April, Lauer noted, Alley had said she was aiming to lose 30 pounds by year's end.

The Jenny Craig spokeswoman — guess how she dropped those ell-bees? — explained that it's different this time because she's given her goal a lifespan. As in, for the rest of her lifespan.

After previous weight-loss efforts she'd hit her goal and then let things go, she said. This time the goal is not simply hitting a number but maintaining the number she's at.

"I really want to do more acting, and I want to do more movies ...," Alley said. "And I thought, 'How do I like to see myself on film?' ... and I like to see myself looking more svelte. That's just the truth of it."
