Nate Berkus hitched in N.Y. Public Library’s first same-sex wedding

Nate Berkus has built a dream wedding of his own: The designer wed fiance Jeremiah Brent on Saturday in New York City.

The “American Dream Builders” host, interior designer and author wed Brent, also a designer and TV personality, at the New York Public Library, marking the first same-sex union at the iconic landmark, People reported.

Berkus, 42, wore a J. Crew suit and Brent, 29, designer Rachel Zoe’s former assistant, wore a Saint Laurent suit, the magazine said. The two reportedly exchanged identical gold bands from Van Cleef & Arpels.

The pair, who got engaged in Machu Picchu, Peru, last April after dating for about nine months, had their ceremony officiated by OWN President Sheri Salata in front of about 220 guests, the magazine said.

The guest list included Berkus’ pal Oprah Winfrey, TV personality Rachael Ray, “The Kitchen” cohost Katie Lee, designer Rebecca Minkoff, “Cougar Town” star Busy Philipps and Elizabeth Hendrickson of “The Young and the Restless.”

“Just left @NateBerkus wedding to his partner Jeremiah.I felt the shift. #anewdayhascome,” Winfrey tweeted following the ceremony. Berkus retweeted her message.

Salata echoed that message Monday, tweeting, “#magicalglasses Watched an energetic seismic shift Saturday nite. There is an open moment to do that in our lives too. See it differently.”

Other celebs including Courtney Love Cobain and Holly Robinson Peete extended their congrats to the couple on Twitter too.

Berkus incorporated his design touches into the celebration: The ceremony wall and long wooden farm tables at the reception were decorated with fabrics from his design collections and adhered to a palette of black, white and cream with gold accents and natural elements.

“It’s going to be a really sexy wedding ceremony, like really masculine but sexy feel,” Brent told E! News ahead of the ceremony. “It’s been really great and been a really fun process for us to blend our aesthetics together and really create this whole moment.”

Gospel for Teens from Harlem’s Mama Foundation for the Arts performed after the ceremony, and the after party was deejayed by the couple’s close friend Marjorie Gubelman (DJ Mad Marj). Also, pop star Estelle performed her hit “American Boy.”

Only civil weddings can be held at the library, according to its website, and rental fees go to support its programs and services. A professional wedding planner is also required. Movie fans might also know the venue as the site of Carrie Bradshaw’s grand attempted wedding in the “Sex and the City” movie.

Interesting tidbit: The library, which opened in 1911, maintains its own liquor license.
