Exclusive: Teen cupid Jonesy is having the worst day ever in this exclusive comic preview

Share

“Welcome to the worst day ever.”

So says Jonesy, the teen-age title character with a secret power from the new comic book miniseries by writer Sam Humphries (of “Legendary Star-Lord” and “Citizen Jack”) and artist Caitlin Rose Boyle.

Hero Complex readers are getting a first look at the series with an exclusive preview of the first issue below.

Jonesy, a self-proclaimed expert on “things that rule and things that suck,” has the power to make people fall in love, but it unfortunately doesn’t work on her. But the teen cupid does have a ferret, her own zine, a dad who owns a doughnut shop and, of course, a secret crush.

“Jonesy” is being published by Boom! Box, an imprint of Boom! Studios that focuses on more experimental original series and is known for the Eisner Award-winning series “Lumberjanes” as well as titles such as “Power Up” and “Giant Days.”

The first issue of “Jonesy” is set to be released on Feb. 10 with main cover art by series artist Boyle as well as an incentive cover by Lissa Treiman.

The “Jonesy” preview will also be available in “Lumberjanes” No. 21, which hits shelves Wednesday.

The series synopsis from Boom! Studios is included below.

What’s to Love: Just in time for Valentine’s Day, “Jonesy” is a comic about love that makes us swoon! Sam Humphries (Legendary Star Lord,” “Citizen Jack) and fresh talent Caitlin Rose Boyle (“Buck n’ Lou & the Night Crew) bring something special to BOOM! Box with this series about mad-cap shenanigans, friendship, pals, being a teenager, and figuring out who you are ... with a teen cupid twist! If you like “Giant Days,” dig adorkable romance stories, or just want to smile from ear to ear after reading a comic, you’ll fall in love with “Jonesy”!

What It Is: Jonesy is a self-described “cool dork” who spends her time making zines nobody reads, watching anime, and listening to riot grrrl bands and 1D simultaneously. But she has a secret nobody knows. She has the power to make people fall in love! Anyone. With anything. She’s a cupid in plaid. With a Tumblr. There’s only one catch -- it doesn’t work on herself. She’s gonna have to find love the old-fashioned way, and in the meantime, figure out how to distract herself from the real emotions she inevitably has to face when her powers go wrong...
