Walt Disney Animation releases new Mickey Mouse short

A hand-drawn, black-and-white Mickey Mouse animated short film will debut June 11 at the Annecy Animation Festival in Annecy, France, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced Tuesday.

The vintage-feeling short, which is called “Get a Horse,” features the voice of Walt Disney as Mickey Mouse.

The Burbank studio released a logline describing the short as “never before seen,” but a studio spokeswoman, when asked if the short is newly made, refused to comment.

“Get a Horse,” the release said, “follows Mickey, his favorite gal pal Minnie Mouse and their friends Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow as they delight in a musical wagon ride -- until Peg-Leg Pete shows up and tries to run them off the road.”

Mickey Mouse made his big screen debut in the 1928 short film “Steamboat Willie,” but his last appearance in a Disney short was the Oscar-nominated 1995 film “Runaway Brain.”

Disney has begun reviving its signature character in recent years -- in 2006, the Disney Channel premiered a CGI animated show called “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” in 2010 the company launched the video game “Epic Mickey” and beginning July 28, the Disney Channel will screen a series of 19 new Mickey shorts.

The studio spokeswoman would not divulge when “Get a Horse” will be available for general audiences to view.

The next feature from Disney Animation, “Frozen,” opens Nov. 27.
