ABC renews ‘Nashville’ for a third season
Like a rock star late to the stage, ABC has kept the suspense going on the fate of its country music-themed soap “Nashville”--until at long last announcing its renewal late Friday...on Twitter.
ABC Co-President Ben Sherwood announced the renewal of the Connie Britton-Hayden Panettiere drama on his Twitter account.
On the bubble last year, the second-series held its ground amid a hefty roster of freshman duds, on the network. Despite taking a dip in the young-adult demo, the second season was a solid performer, averaging 5.3 million viewers and a 1.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.
The renewal avoids an awkward situation--some of the show’s stars--Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio, Chris Carmack and Jonathan Jackson--were on a “Nashville” concert tour that made stops in such cities as New York, Chicago and Philadelphia.
“Nashville” wraps its second season on May 14.
The drama joins previously announced returning series, including, “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Revenge,” among others.
