Like a rock star late to the stage, ABC has kept the suspense going on the fate of its country music-themed soap "Nashville"--until at long last announcing its renewal late Friday...on Twitter.
ABC Co-President Ben Sherwood announced the renewal of the Connie Britton-Hayden Panettiere drama on his Twitter account.
On the bubble last year, the second-series held its ground amid a hefty roster of freshman duds, on the network. Despite taking a dip in the young-adult demo, the second season was a solid performer, averaging 5.3 million viewers and a 1.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.
The renewal avoids an awkward situation--some of the show's stars--Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio, Chris Carmack and Jonathan Jackson--were on a "Nashville" concert tour that made stops in such cities as New York, Chicago and Philadelphia.
"Nashville" wraps its second season on May 14.
