Sandy Hook children’s book coming from two award-winning authors
A book for children about the Sandy Hook shootings? Random House announced Monday that it will be publishing one this fall. And with an award-winning writer and illustrator at the helm, it just might work.
Patricia MacLachlan, who will be writing the story, is best known for her children’s book “Sally, Plain and Tall,” which won the 1986 Newbery Medal.
The art will be done by Steven Kellogg, who has written and/or illustrated about 100 books for children, garnering the New England Book Award and the Regina Medal for distringuished contribution to children’s literature.
Kellogg (no relation) is a former resident of Newtown. He and MacLaclan are longtime friends.
Their book is to be titled “Snowflakes Fall” and will be released by Random House on Nov. 12. The Associated Press reports that the book “will feature words and images about the Connecticut community where a gunman killed 20 elementary school students and six faculty members.”
A portion of the proceeds of “Snowflakes Fall” will be donated to an organization helping the Sandy Hook community.
