Golden gloves: Over the course of roasting a dozen turkeys, we made a discovery: There’s nothing better for getting the big bird out of the pan than these nifty rubber oven mitts. Forget about those awkward lifter tools and racks -- these gloves have a ridged surface that lets you get a firm, no-slip grip as stable as bare hands. Plus, they’re waterproof, protect at up to 500 degrees, don’t stain and can be tossed into the washing machine to clean.

Orka silicone oven mitt: $19.95 from Cookin’ Stuff in Torrance and Sur La Table stores.

Just a pinch: When you’re adding spices and other ingredients to the blender or a saucepan, using these little silicone pinch bowls allows for neatness and accuracy that’s not always possible with measuring spoons and pour spouts. Our Thanksgiving testers put them through the microwave, dishwasher and freezer; they’re heat-resistant up to 500 degrees too.

Pulling it together: It took a little muscle to get this stainless steel corkscrew poultry lacer to pierce the turkey skin, but once started, it zipped up the stuffing-filled cavity neatly and beautifully, and never let go.
