My Favorite Weekend: Chris Tunnell, Dole Group corporate chef
CORPORATE CHEF, DOLCE GROUP
"My life revolves around food and Trisha -- my favorite things in life," says Tunnell, referring to his fiancée and Dolce Group special events director, who lives with him in Hollywood. Tunnell, a 31-year-old native of Tulsa, Okla., oversees the too-cool Geisha House, Dolce, Bella, Les Deux and Ketchup.
AFTER-WORK FIDDLING The weekend is our busiest time, so Friday nights I'm usually jumping around to the various restaurants. Sometimes we stop for a drink at the Cat & Fiddle in Hollywood on the way home. BASKING IN THE 'BU Malibu is one of the greatest places on Earth. Saturday morning we'd get out around 8 or 9 and take our dog Roscoe to Surfrider Beach for a couple of hours. We'd jog, play Frisbee, swim and grab lunch at John's Garden in the Country Mart. I'd get the San Pedro Salad with tuna and eggs. COOK'S TOUR In the afternoon I like to go to the Cook's Library on 3rd Street. I could spend hours in there, like a carpenter in Lowe's. They have every kind of cookbook from every ethnic cuisine, a lot about the food and beverage industry, stories about chefs. I just bought "My Last Supper: 50 Great Chefs and Their Final Meals." I'd get into Ketchup, our newest restaurant, around 4. My best friend, Matt Greene, is the general manager. GET FRESH Early Sunday we'd go to the Hollywood Farmers Market. I look for personal stuff to cook and good deals for the restaurants. They have great tomatoes, plantains, all kinds of apples, even white truffles -- you have to know where to look and who to talk to. Then California Vegan on Sunset is great for juice and organic shakes. I'm fascinated by how they transform food: I've had their vegan spaghetti and "meatballs" and could barely tell the difference. WINDING DOWN Sunday night at Ketchup is relaxed. Friends and family come in, and I try out new things in the kitchen. I'm there till 10 or 11, then we go to this little bar called Boardner's in Hollywood -- I love that place -- to sit back, rejuvenate and get ready for the week.
