Look! This ice cream changes color when you lick it

A physicist turned ice cream maker in Spain has created an ice cream that changes color when you lick it, reported Phys.org. Remember those mood rings you had in the ‘70s? This is so much better.

Manuel Linares and his colleagues have created an ice cream that changes from blue to pink to purple when you eat it. The ice cream reacts to the changing temperature and acids in your mouth.

The sweet treat is called Xamaleón (chameleon), and contains a mix of natural flavors including strawberries, cocoa, almonds, banana, pistachio, vanilla and caramel, reported the Daily Mirror. Until Linares secures a patent, that’s all he’s revealing.

“As a physicist I know that there are various possibilities that might work and I was delighted when I managed to crack it and create an ice cream that changes color,” Linares told the Daily Mirror.

Linares developed the ice cream while pursuing a degree in “Creating Artisan Ice Cream” at the Asociación Empresarial Nacional de Elaboradores Artesanos y Comerciantes de Helados y Horchatas, a nonprofit organization aimed at the promotion and development of artisanal ice cream, according to the website.

Linares is selling the ice cream at IceXperience, a shop he’s opened in Blanes. In addition to the color-changing ice cream, Linares also has a variety he claims is an aphrodisiac called Xamán, made with Peruvian and African medicinal plants.

There’s no word yet on whether it’s as potent in the aphrodisiac department as the Viagra ice cream that U.K.-based food inventor Charlie Harry Francis created earlier this year for his company Lick Me I’m Delicious. Francis also invented the $225-a-scoop glow-in-the-dark jellyfish ice cream.
