Review: Drama ‘Windsor Drive’ turns into a dead end

Aspiring actor River Miller (Tommy O’Reilly) leaves for Hollywood in hopes of landing a part in the remake of the fictional “Windsor Drive,” which lends its title to this film. He also seeks to escape the sad memory of an ex-girlfriend who committed suicide.

Upon arrival in La-La Land, he rooms with Ivy (Anna Biani) and Wulfric (Kyan DuBois), two kooky hipsters with a wardrobe way more vintage than normcore. River also begins stalking June (Mandy Musgrave), a junior casting director at the agency holding auditions for the “Windsor Drive” remake. He wants to seduce her and get his foot in the door.

Screenwriter T.R. Gough probably had “Mulholland Drive” in mind when he wrote this. But unlike David Lynch’s work, there’s no internal logic at work here. There isn’t a whole lot to the script, and the exasperating direction by Natalie Bible only makes the film look like an extended trailer that teases but never delivers. Sequences are inflated with montages of repurposed footage played back forward, backward and upside down ad nauseam, as if to overcompensate for the inability to stage simple scenes and for the stiff, amateurish acting.
