OCT. 30, 2015: Thousands of people are camped out in between the Slovenia and Austrian border, where many have been for one to three days without food or water. They are breaking off branches of the trees to use to build fires for warmth.

OCT. 30, 2015: Narges Heydari, age 15, of Afghanistan catches her crying brother, Matin, age one, as he is lifted over the fence at the Austrian border. Narges climbed over the fence first because the crush of people was too much. She and her parents, and three other siblings arrived from Afghanistan. Thousands of people push to get across the border into Austria from Slovenia where they were held up for days.

Saudi Arabia women are entering the workforce in higher numbers, but they still face many challenges. The percentage of women graduating from universities is higher than for men.

APR. 13, 2015: Saudi military forces fire live projectile rounds into Yemen from positions inside Saudi territory. The rocket range is approximately 30 kilometers. Media members were shown the strength of the Royal Saudi Land Forces while on a tour of the region at Operation Decisive Storm near the month-long point, on April 13, 2015. The location of this area was close to Om Al-Turath.

JAN. 28, 2015: On the anniversary of the birth of Cuban national hero Jose Marti, ceremonies are held throughout Havana on Jan. 28, 2015. School children gather at the Plaza of the Revolution to take part in a ceremony some holding images of Fidel Castro and Jose Marti. Jose Marti fought for Cuban independence from Spain. A group of Cuban soldiers raise their torches as the night march begins. Three years of military service is mandatory in Cuba. With Fidel Castro and Raul Castro getting older, Miguel Diaz-Canel will most likely be next in line as leader. He was named first vice president in 2013. Diaz-Canel is the most concrete signal that a generational change of leadership may hover on the horizon in Cuba, matching a demographic shift that makes the island’s population one of the youngest in the hemisphere.
