Lizabeth Scott: In the Feb. 8 California section, the obituary of actress Lizabeth Scott included a portion of a quote from another article that was inserted during final production. The correct quote, from a 1996 interview of Scott about her work in film noir, should have read: “It was a new realm, and it was very exciting, because suddenly you were coming closer and closer to reality.”

Deputies’ fraud charges: In the Feb. 13 California section, an article about a fraud case against three L.A. County sheriff’s deputies said that a judge threw out the charges. In fact, the judge made a finding of acquittal on all counts, ruling on a defense motion after prosecutors had presented their case before a jury.

Primary system: In the Feb. 8 California section, a California Politics column about the state’s top-two primary said that voters with no party preference were forbidden to cast ballots under the old system of choosing nominees. In June 2010, when the top-two measure was before voters, the rules allowed such voters to cast a ballot in the Democratic or Republican primary if they requested.

Soccer at the Vatican: In the Feb. 8 Sports section, a photo caption with an article about an annual soccer tournament at the Vatican said that a banner reading “Viva el Papa” meant “Up with the pope.” It translates as “Long live the pope.”
