Share

None of the estimated 30 people injured Thursday when a charter bus overturned on the 210 Freeway in Irwindale appeared to be critically injured, the California Highway Patrol said.

All lanes of the freeway just east of the 605 Freeway interchange were temporarily closed as several medical helicopters used the road to land and pick up patients. The westbound lanes were reopened around 11 a.m.

The California Highway Patrol could not immediately confirm the extent of injuries on the scene.

Aerial television news footage showed no patients in a critical response area of triage tents set up next to the crash site.

It was unclear what caused the crash on the eastbound 210 around 10 a.m., or if a big rig stopped near the site had been involved. CHP Officer Ed Jacobs said the investigation was still in its early stages.

The CHP planned to divert traffic off the 605 Freeway onto surface streets in Irwindale.
