Girl, 10, disappears from Northridge home; police searching

Authorities are searching for a 10-year-old girl who disappeared from her Northridge home overnight.

Los Angeles police Lt. Terri Brinkmeyer said officers went to the girl’s home in the 8800 block of Oakdale Avenue after she was reported missing early Wednesday. Several police cars remained at the scene at mid-morning.

Nicole Ryan’s mother told authorities she had last seen her daughter inside her bedroom about 1 a.m., Los Angeles police Capt. Daryl Russell told KTTV. When the mother checked on her daughter about two hours later, Nicole was gone.

“After searching the house and realizing she was nowhere in the house, she called the Police Department,” Russell told the television station.

Russell said police searched the house and neighborhood, but have not found the girl. There were no indications that there were “any issues inside the house” such as an argument that might have prompted the girl to run away, Russell said.

“But at the same time, there’s no indication there’s any foul play whatsoever at this point,” he said. “We’re conducting a thorough investigation. We’re trying to locate Nicole and we’re asking for the public’s help.”

Nicole Ryan is about 4-foot-11, weighs about 100 pounds and has red hair, Russel said. Authorities ask anyone with information to call 911.
