A motorist was arrested Saturday morning after fleeing the scene of a collision in North Hollywood that left a motorcyclist in grave condition, police said.

The driver was heading north on Lankershim Boulevard and attempting to turn left onto Magnolia Boulevard when he struck the unidentified motorcyclist, said Sgt. Jodie McGee of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The identity of the driver, described as a male in his 30s, was not immediately available.

The driver was apprehended nearby and may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, McGhee said.

The accident occured just a few hours after another suspected drunk driver hit and killed a bicyclist in Pomona.

Pomona police arrested a Chino Hills man in that incident. The man allegedly rear-ended the unidentified bicyclist about 2:30 a.m.

The victim, in his 40s or 50s, was pronounced dead after being taken by paramedics to a hospital.
