Water main break creates bottleneck on Wilshire Boulevard
Commuters heading downtown will want to avoid Wilshire Boulevard just north of the 110 Freeway on Wednesday, after a water main broke and flooded the street.
The break to the eight-inch water main occurred before 4:30 a.m. at 1111 Wilshire Blvd. and sent water flooding between Lucas Avenue and Bixel Street, said a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power official.
Only one lane was open in either direction in the morning, and the main won’t be repaired until at least 4 p.m., said Michelle Vargas, a LADWP spokeswoman.
It’s unclear how much of the street will have to be closed for the remainder of the day.
The cause of the break remained under investigation.
