SACRAMENTO -- Just days after state Sen. Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) was arrested on corruption charges, officials said Thursday that Yee’s chief of staff, Jordan Curley, was about to leave public service for a job with a campaign consulting firm.

Curley, who was not implicated in the Yee case, gave her two week’s notice a week before Yee’s arrest.

Curley said she had no advance knowledge of the FBI probe and her notice of resignation a week before the arrest was a coincidence. She is going to work for Kaufman Campaign Consultants, a firm headed by longtime Democratic political consultant Gale R. Kaufman.

Constituents of the 8th Senate District will still be able to have their problems taken care of by remaining staffers working in the Capitol and field offices.

Meanwhile, talks are underway to determine if other lawmakers who co-authored some of Yee’s bills would step up and become the lead author responsible for carrying them through the Legislature.

Bills being discussed include SB 970, which would limit the placement of juvenile criminal offenders in solitary confinement.
