8 critically injured in Riverside County tour bus crash
Eight people were critically injured Saturday when a tour bus crashed on Interstate 215 in Riverside County, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 5 p.m. on the northbound side near D Street in Perris, shutting down the freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Maurice Walker.
The bus had just passed the onramp when it veered off the roadway for unknown reasons and hit a large cinder-block sound wall, Walker said. The bus continued traveling north before hitting the wall again, penetrating it, he said.
The critically injured were taken to hospitals, and 20 other passengers were being treated for moderate injuries, according to the Riverside County Fire Department’s website.
A CHP dispatcher said the freeway was closed from Nuevo Road to 4th Street.
The crash came four days after a bus carrying tourists from France crashed on a Highway 101 overpass near Soledad, in Monterey County, killing four passengers.
