From Times Staff Reports

Joseph Turner, who founded the anti-illegal immigration group Save Our State, announced Tuesday that he was running for the San Bernardino City Unified School District board.

Turner is one of nine candidates competing for four spots. This spring, he tried to place an initiative on the ballot that would bar illegal immigrants from renting in the city and punish those who hire them as laborers.

School board: A brief article in the Inland Empire edition of Wednesday’s California section reported that anti-illegal-immigration activist Joseph Turner had announced his candidacy for the San Bernardino City Unified School District board on Tuesday. He had filed papers last week to run for the seat.

A Superior Court judge blocked the measure from going to the ballot, ruling that the formula the city used to determine the number of signatures Turner needed was flawed.
