Body of slain ambassador J. Christopher Stevens en route to U.S.
The body of J. Christopher Stevens is on its way to Andrews Air Force base, where President Obama plans to attend the arrival ceremony for the slain ambassador to Libya.
Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will attend the transfer of remains ceremony of all four Americans killed this week in Benghazi, according to an announcement from the White House.
Stevens and three other Americans were killed Tuesday after armed protesters attacked and set fire to the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. The attack, along with another assault on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, was purportedly incited by an anti-Muslim video made in California and posted online.
Obama and Clinton are expected to speak at the ceremony scheduled for 2:15 p.m. EDT Friday. First Lady Michelle Obama is also slated to attend, the White House said.
Even as Stevens’ body returned home, the angry reaction to the film continued to spread. On Friday, 200 Pakistanis demonstrated in Islamabad urging Muslims to unite against the United States. Protests continued in Cairo for a fourth straight day and in Yemen, four protesters were killed and dozens injured after clashes with the government.
