John P. Puerner

John P. Puerner was named publisher and president of the Los Angeles Times in April 2000.

Previously, he served as president of Orlando Sentinel Communications and chief executive officer and publisher of The Orlando Sentinel from September 1993 to April 2000. Both newspapers are owned by Tribune Company, where he held several positions during the preceding 14 years.

From 1989 to 1993, Mr. Puerner was vice president and director of marketing and development for the Chicago Tribune. He served as director/circulation administration in 1989 and as director/strategic projects within the circulation department in 1988.

Prior to that, Mr. Puerner was controller and director of planning in Tribune Company’s corporate office from 1985 to 1988; director of strategic planning and assistant treasurer from 1983 to 1985; and manager of financial planning and assistant treasurer from 1982 to 1983. He joined Tribune in 1979 as a financial analyst.

Mr. Puerner is on the Boards of United Way of Greater Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Music Center, Orange County Performing Arts Center, Pasadena Art Center College of Design, California Community Foundation, California Institute of Technology, and International Women’s Media Foundation. He also serves on the Advisory Council for the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business.

Born January 13, 1952, in Aruba, Dutch West Indies, Mr. Puerner holds a bachelor of arts degree and an MBA from the University of Colorado.
