Los Angeles Times Names Kate Aurthur As Television Editor

LOS ANGELES, June 8, 2006 – The Los Angeles Times today appointed Kate Aurthur as its television editor, effective July 10, it was announced by John Montorio, associate editor, and Lennie LaGuire, deputy features editor, entertainment and news.

As a freelance culture writer for the past two years, Aurthur has written for the Los Angeles Times in addition to the New York Times, where she also served as a guest editor for its Arts & Leisure section and as an editor and producer for NYTimes.com. Prior to that, she worked for Vanity Fair, where she created its annual “New Establishment Stock Index” feature, and New York Magazine, where she wrote the monthly “Rat City” column. Before beginning her journalism career, she was a self-employed investor in the stock market.

Aurthur received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

“Kate is a terrific writer and a plugged-in observer of the medium,” said Montorio. “She knows every nuance of the Nielsens and brings a smart viewer’s passion and insight to a TV landscape that stretches from ‘The Amazing Race’ to ’24.’”
