Dodgers sign reliever Kevin Gregg to push non-roster total to 19

Winters are full of what-have-you-got-to-lose moves, and the Dodgers rolled one out Sunday when they announced the signing of reliever Kevin Gregg to a minor league contract with an invite to the big camp.

So two days before pitchers and catchers are due to report, the Dodgers now have 19 non-roster players coming to camp.

Gregg, who made his major league debut with the Angels, has been a closer with four different teams. He did not earn a save last season with the Orioles, who released him on Sept. 14.

The right-hander saved 144 games from 2007 to 2011. He signed a two-year contract to be the Baltimore closer in 2011 for $2 million.

Last season Gregg, 44, went 3-2 with a 4.95 ERA and a career-high 1.70 WHIP.

The Dodgers now have seven non-roster pitchers competing for a spot in an already crowded bullpen.
