Lee asserts that he’s ‘getting better daily’

Marqise Lee suffered a knee sprain against Arizona State, but USC’s All-American receiver said Wednesday that he would not be sidelined for long.

Lee did not practice because he was receiving rehabilitation treatments. After the Trojans’ first workout since Lane Kiffin’s firing, Lee emerged from the locker room sans the crutches he required over the weekend and said he was “getting better daily.”

USC’s next game is a week from Thursday against Arizona. Asked if the injury would require long-term recovery, Lee said, “Nah, nah, nah, nah. It’s very minor.”

“Marqise Lee has made some miraculous recoveries,” interim Coach Ed Orgeron said. “We’re going to work hard to get him ready for next week. We don’t know if he will be or not.”

Redd ready

Tailback Silas Redd said he was cleared to play and intends to make his season debut against Arizona.

Redd led the Trojans with 905 yards rushing last season. He suffered a knee injury during spring practice and has undergone two surgical procedures.

Kiffin’s firing was another turn in the career of a player who transferred to USC after the NCAA hammered Penn State with penalties related to the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.

“In my college career,” Redd said, “nothing surprises me anymore at all.” He added, “I’m just rolling with the punches right now.”

Under Orgeron, practices have been reopened to the media.

Why?

“I miss you all,” he joked to reporters. “No, I think it’s good for the team, it’s good for USC. I like the exposure -- it’s part of USC, part of what Coach [ Pete] Carroll built with us. The energy, the excitement, the good and the bad.”
