Pete Carroll is an amazing man and an incredible coach, with a philosophy that we all need: focus on positive actions rather than the negative. Pete believes that gang leaders can be positive models for their members, with his guidance.

Kurt Streeter’s article captured the man we at Women Against Gun Violence honored several years ago when he founded A Better LA. If we all use Pete as a model, and teach, mentor and/or employ young men and women before they enter lives of crime and despair, we might actually end gun violence in L.A.

Sometimes the criticism of the program is deserved.

The same can be said of some of the players. And some of the criticism deservedly rubs off on the coach.

But you can’t criticize Pete Carroll’s humanity.
