Javy Guerra, who started the 2012 season as the Dodgers closer, was designated for assignment Sunday, part of a flurry of moves to cut the roster to the 30 total players they can take to Australia.

Guerra, 28, can still be traded while the Dodgers wait to see if he’s claimed on waivers. If he goes unclaimed, he could still be sent to triple-A Albuquerque.

The Dodgers added two players, Justin Turner and Chone Figgins, to their 40-man roster to fill utility roles. Both will make the trip to Australia.

Pitchers Zack Greinke, Dan Haren and Brandon League are classified as exempt and will not make the trip, and outfielder Carl Crawford is staying behind while on paternity leave. The four players will remain in Phoenix and play in minor league games until the Dodgers return from their two-game series against the Diamondbacks in Sydney.

The Dodgers are scheduled to play an exhibition game Thursday against the Australian national team. Five players activated for that game will not make the 25-man roster for the season opener.

Zach Lee is expected to start the exhibition game. With Greinke and Haren remaining in Phoenix, Paul Maholm becomes the emergency starter should anything befall Clayton Kershaw or Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Relievers Jose Dominguez, Red Patterson and Seth Rosin were all scheduled to be on the midnight flight for Australia.

The Dodgers’ complete 30-man roster for Australia:

Pitchers (14): Dominguez, J.P. Howell, Kenley Jansen, Kershaw, Lee, Maholm, Patterson, Chris Perez, Rosin, Paco Rodriguez, Ryu, Brian Wilson, Chris Withrow and Jamey Wright.

Catchers (3): Drew Butera, A.J. Ellis and Tim Federowicz.

Infielders (8): Figgins, Adrian Gonzalez, Dee Gordon, Alex Guerrero, Hanley Ramirez, Miguel Rojas, Turner and Juan Uribe.

Outfielders (5): Mike Baxter, Andre Ethier, Joc Pederson, Yasiel Puig, and Scott Van Slyke.

Even after cutting that down to 25 for the games against the Diamondbacks, the Dodgers will have to make two or three more moves when the exempt players rejoin the team in San Diego.
