SINGLES MATCHES

Steve Stricker beat Lee Westwood, Europe, 2 and 1.

Notes: Stricker was impenetrable. Westwood led through the 11th hole, but Stricker made an eagle on No. 15 and won the hole on No. 17, when Westwood drove his ball into a muddy hill.

Stewart Cink all square with Rory McIlroy, Europe.

Notes: Cink had a five-footer to go one up on No. 17. But he missed and McIlroy made a four-footer for the half on 18, after leaving his third shot in the trap.

Luke Donald, Europe, beat Jim Furyk, 1-up.

Notes: Furyk trailed throughout, never yielded and only lost when he hit his approach into the right trap on No. 18.

Dustin Johnson beat Martin Kaymer, Europe, 6 and 4.

Notes: After two days of struggling, Johnson played superb golf and closed it out with four straight birdies.

Ian Poulter, Europe, beat Matt Kuchar, 5 and 4.

Notes: The excitable Poulter closed it out with a birdie on No. 14 and ran his Ryder Cup record to 8-3.

Jeff Overton beat Ross Fisher, Europe, 3 and 2.

Notes: Overton trailed through 11 holes, but sank a long putt on No. 10 and said that jump-started him.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, Europe, beat Bubba Watson, 4 and 3.

Notes: Jimenez, the oldest player competing in this Ryder Cup at age 46, won in what was likely his last appearance with an incredible sand shot and short putt on No. 15.

Tiger Woods beat Francesco Molinari, Europe, 4 and 3.

Notes: Woods was nine-under par, played his most superb golf of the year, and had a run of five birdies and one eagle in seven holes.

Rickie Fowler all square with Edoardo Molinari, Europe.

Notes: Fowler was three down with three holes to go and got the half point with a closing three birdies. His 12-footer on 18 left the final result of this hugely dramatic final day to the last match of the day, Hunter Mahan of the U.S. versus Graeme McDowell.

Phil Mickelson beat Peter Hanson, Europe, 4 and 2.

Notes: Mickelson, like Woods, played a marvelous round, never trailed and finished 3-3-4-3.

Zach Johnson beat Padraig Harrington, 3 and 2

Notes: Harrington, a three-time major champion, continued to struggle, and Johnson, a former Masters champion, made five birdies and was as solid throughout as Harrington was shaky.

Graeme McDowell, Europe, beat Hunter Mahan, 3 and 1.

Notes: McDowell, Europe’s anchor singles player, won the cup with a remarkable downhill, slick putt of 20 feet on No. 16 to go two up with two holes to play. On No. 17, Mahan hit his tee shot short, then chunked his chip off an open fairway, barely missed his 30-foot putt just off the green, and conceded to McDowell and Europe.
