USC quarterback Mark Sanchez said Monday that he had been reinstated by the university and was pleased and relieved to rejoin teammates for workouts as they prepared for the upcoming season.

USC had put Sanchez on interim suspension after he was arrested April 26 on suspicion of sexual assault. But the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced Friday that it would not file charges against the redshirt freshman from Mission Viejo because of insufficient evidence.

“I’m just so happy it’s over and now I’m just working to get past it,” Sanchez said in a brief interview outside Heritage Hall.

Sanchez worked out Monday and met with Coach Pete Carroll, but he declined to comment further.

“I just wanted to get him back into the fold and try to get things back to normal,” Carroll said.

Carroll has said Sanchez, 19, could face team-related discipline for underage drinking and using a fake ID on the night he was arrested.

“All of our issues we handle internally,” Carroll said Monday. “We’ve already addressed it and he has some stuff he has to do.”

Carroll declined to provide specifics, but team disciplinary actions in the past have typically included counseling and mentoring components.

Sanchez’s return bolsters a quarterback corps that also includes juniors John David Booty and Michael McDonald and incoming freshman Garrett Green.

Booty, who had back surgery in March and is regarded as the starter heading into training camp, will begin light throwing this week, according to quarterbacks coach Steve Sarkisian.

Booty said recently that his back felt better than at any time since his arrival at USC in the fall of 2003.
