Xavier Henry headed to New York, Germany to have knee treated

Lakers guard/forward Xavier Henry has struggled to recover from a December knee injury that sidelined him for much of last season.

According to the team, Henry will travel to New York City to have Dr. Keith Pyne examine and give a second opinion on Henry’s right knee.

The 23-year old Kansas product will then journey to Dusseldorf, Germany, to receive Regenokine treatment from Dr. Jens Hartmann.

In the Regenokine procedure, blood is removed from the affected area of a patient’s body and spun in a centrifuge. A serum is then created and injected back into the targeted area to combat proteins and molecules that cause inflammatory responses.

Lakers All-Star Kobe Bryant has undergone the procedure multiple times over his career.

Henry had surgery in April to repair a cartilage abnormality in his right knee. Through 43 games last season he averaged 10.0 points and 2.7 rebounds through 43 games.

The four-year veteran missed the early part of training camp with back spasms, but after ramping up activity with hopes of a return, Henry suffered a setback that will keep him out of the remainder of the preseason.

It’s unclear when Henry will be available to play again, but he’s expected to return to the team on Oct. 24. The Lakers start the regular season on Oct. 28 at Staples Center, hosting the Houston Rockets.
