Felix Sanchez wins Olympic 400-meter hurdles for second time

LONDON -- Felix Sanchez has won gold in the 400-meter hurdles eight years after his first Olympic triumph.

Sanchez, the former USC standout who represents the Dominican Republic, recorded a season-best time of 47.63 seconds Tuesday to become the Olympic champion again, this time a few weeks short of his 35^th birthday. Obviously, he has aged well: his winning time on Tuesday was identical to his winning time in Athens.

Michael Tinsley of Little Rock, Ark., was second in a personal-best 47.91 seconds and Javier Culson of Puerto Rico was third in 48.10 seconds.

Angelo Taylor of the U.S., who won Olympic gold in this event in 2000 and 2008, faded to fifth in a time of 48.25 seconds, just behind 2011 world champion David Greene of Great Britain (48.24). Taylor appeared to have gone out too fast early in the race and had little left to attack the last few hurdles.

Kerron Clement of the U.S., the silver medalist at Beijing four years ago, was eighth in 49.15.

Sanchez splits his time between Los Angeles and the Dominican Republic and still does a lot of training in Southern California.
