On Friday, Vancouver played again without defensemen Sami Salo and Kevin Bieksa.

Salo, who set a career high in goals (14) and points (37) during the regular season, sat out Game 1 after suffering a torso injury in the Canucks’ first-round series against Dallas.

He had hoped to play in Game 2.

“The plan was to go out there and move around a bit. I feel a lot better,” Salo said after Thursday’s practice, which he started but could not finish.

Salo could be available for Game 3 on Sunday. “We’ll see how the body responds,” he said.

Bieksa, who had 12 goals and 30 assists in the regular season, did not play because of an undisclosed injury.

Alexander Edler and Rory Fitzpatrick replaced them.

“Injuries are part of the game,” Vancouver Coach Alain Vigneault said. “They’re there. We’ve got to deal with them.”

The Ducks’ Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who started his fourth consecutive game of the playoffs in goal Friday, had to be sharp early. With Vancouver featuring a more aggressive attack around the net, Giguere made 12 saves in the first period.

“We want to skate, use our speed and keep the puck,” Giguere said before the game.

But the Canucks had other ideas. After getting roughed up in a 5-1 loss in Game 1, Vancouver tried to agitate the Ducks, who pride themselves on not backing down to challenges.

“If a team wants to fight, we can handle that too,” Giguere said. “We have the skills to score some big goals, but it all starts with us moving our feet. When we do that, good things happen for us.”
