Like most of America, Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson was saddened by the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn., on Friday. So he decided to pay tribute to the victims during Monday night’s game against the New York Jets.

“Kind of heartbroken, so just something to try to give back and show tribute to those families knowing how much they hurt,” Johnson said. “And a situation where on ‘Monday Night Football’ everybody around the world is watching.”

Johnson wrote the names of each of the victims on his shoes and also had the words “RIP SHES” and a cross on each shoe. SHES refers to Sandy Hook Elementary School, where the shooting took place.

Perhaps it was coincidence, or perhaps it was something mystical, but Johnson had an amazing 94-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to get the Titans the deciding points in their 14-10 victory.

The Jets also had SHES decals on their helmets.
