Here’s an original gift idea: A zeppelin ride, with half off on a second ticket

Take a trip on an airship, reliving the bygone days of this old-fashioned means of transport. The airship Eureka, which partners with Farmers Insurance and bears its logo, offers tours over the Los Angeles area, the Silicon Valley, San Diego and San Francisco Bay. And if you act quickly, you can get a discount on the trips.

The deal: Buy a tour or gift certificate for a flight lasting an hour or longer on the Eureka and get half off a second ticket. Prices vary by destination and length of flight. For example, a tour of the L.A. area that takes off in Long Beach costs, per person, $375 for a 45-minute tour, $495 for an hour and $950 for two hours; taxes not included.

When: You must book by 5 p.m. PST Thursday to get the half-off fare for a second passenger.

Tested: There are just 12 seats on the zeppelin. As of Tuesday, some space remained for the airship’s next Los Angeles area engagement, Dec. 28 through Jan. 2, but the flights were selling out quickly. But remember: The half-off deal is good for future flights at various destinations if you book by the Thursday deadline. Click here to see the Eureka’s flight calendar for upcoming months.

Tip: Check out the tour company’s website, which has pictures new and old, plus information on how to prepare for a zeppelin ride. And check out the company’s Facebook page for more information about the company and this deal. Bonus: If you fly by Jan. 2, you may also be eligible to receive 10% off a full fare.
